Kathmandu, June 27 (ANI): Nepali Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has said he would not resign, amid growing pressure from ruling allies and the main opposition party to pick a new prime ministerial candidate.
"The government has the support of the political parties and I will not resign at anyone's behest," said Nepal, while speaking at a gathering here on Saturday.
According to The Kathmandu Post, ruling Nepali Congress and the Communist Party Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) have been asking the prime minister to step down to pave the way for the formation of a national consensus government.
The prime minister also clarified that he would not hamper matters if the parties reach a concrete understanding on forming a national consensus or majority government, Xinhua reports.
"I will be happy if the parties reach agreement to form a new government, be it majority or consensus," he said.
He said that the government's tenure is not over as claimed by the main opposition Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) and some CPN-UML leaders.
"Those who say the incumbent government's tenure is over have not understood the issue," he added. (ANI)
