BJP top brass shows green signal to Jaswant Singh's re-entry

New Delhi, Tue, 15 Jun 2010 ANI

New Delhi, June 15 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) top leaders on Tuesday cleared roadblocks for the re-entry of former External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh, who was expelled in 2009.

Earlier this month, party president Nitin Gadkari met Jaswant Singh at his New Delhi residence and held discussion on the matter.

Singh was summarily expelled by the BJP on August 19, 2009 for writing a book on Mohammed Ali Jinnah.

Singh accused the party leaders of viewing his book as a hagiographic account of Jinnah without even reading it.

Though the then BJP president, Rajnath Singh, was personally not in favour of sacking Jaswant Singh, he was pushed by a bunch of leaders led by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Even L. K. Advani, who was reportedly disinclined to expel Singh, did not oppose the decision in the party's parliamentary board.

According to the BJP sources, the proposal to bring Singh back was mooted by Advani himself.

Advani has mooted a plan to bring back all those who left the BJP, including Uma Bharati, the sources said. (ANI)
