Too many T20 matches will result in 'overkill': Anderson

London, Tue, 15 Jun 2010 ANI

London, Jun15 (ANI): To keep the growing interest in Twenty20 cricket intact, England fast bowler James Anderson has warned that too many matches of the shortest form of the game could result in a 'overkill'.

Anderson said playing too many Twenty20 matches could result in an overkill for supporters if organisers try to adjust the games into the county season.

"Twenty20 is growing all the time, but there is a bit of a danger of playing too much of it," The Times quoted Anderson, as saying.

"The danger is overkill with Twenty20 cricket because we've seen in county cricket this season that they're playing 16 games over the next three or four weeks. I've played in one and been to another and the crowds have been a bit lower than normal, so there's a danger of playing too much," he said.

Anderson however said that the growing popularity of the shortest form of the game would not threaten the status of Test matches.

"Test cricket is still really well followed. We're still selling out the whole ground for Test matches," he said.

Anderson also admitted that his confidence had been "dented" by not being picked to play in England's World Twenty20 campaign triumph last month. (ANI)
