London, Jun 15 (ANI): Ahead of England's match against Algeria on Friday, fears of increased terrorist threats were sparked off after security guards walked out in a row over pay.
Cape Town Stadium stewards struck work before last night's game between Italy and Paraguay, and police had to take over security at the ground, where thousands of fans will watch England play their next game.
The match is one of 11 "Risk One" World Cup games, considered to face the highest danger of a terrorist attack, The Sun reports.
There were fears that officers drafted in to screen fans entering the 69,000-seat Cape Town Stadium are not properly trained to spot weapons.
Over 300 staff staged a sit-in protest at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Sunday following the match between Germany and Australia.
The dispute is among stewards hired by Stallion Security. The workers claimed they had been promised 130 pounds per shift, but some had as little as 17 pounds in their wage packets.
The World Cup Organising Committee confirmed last night that police have taken over security at the Durban and Cape Town grounds. (ANI)
