London, June 10 (ANI): Novelist Barbara Kingsolver has won the Orange Prize for Fiction this year for her sixth novel 'The Lacuna'.
Barbara beat favourite Booker prizewinner Hilary Mantel to win the 30,000-pound prize money at a ceremony in central London.
The Orange Prize is for work of fiction written by women.
Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cornwall presented Barbara with the award at a ceremony at the Royal Festival Hall.
The Lacuna is about a writer named Harrison Shepherd, and his social-climbing mother Salome, who ends up mixing plaster for famed Mexican muralist Diego Rivera, reports the BBC.
"We had very different tastes on the panel, but in the end we went for passion not compromise," judge Daisy Goodwin said.
"We chose The Lacuna because it is a book of breathtaking scale and shattering moments of poignancy," she added. (ANI)
