Successful operation keeps Drogba's World Cup dreams alive

Berne, Mon, 07 Jun 2010 ANI

Berne (Switzerland), June 7(ANI): Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba's World Cup dreams are alive after a successful operation on his broken arm, but remains doubtful for his country's opener against Portugal on June 15.

Drogba went under the knife in Berne, Switzerland, and doctors are happy with the results.

"The surgery has been a success and medical staff are confident about a rapid restoration of the player," The Sun quoted an official Ivory Coast statement, as saying.

The 32-year-old had suffered the injury in Ivory Coast's friendly win over Japan last week.

Meanwhile, Ivory Coast manager Sven Goran Eriksson said that he is hoping that his striker would recover in time for the start of the tournament.

"We still hope he will make it, but he is in a hospital in Switzerland. I must wait for another update from the specialist," Eriksson said. (ANI)
