Sydney, Sept.11 (ANI): New South Wales Police Minister who lied about dancing around his office in his underwear and allegedly simulating a sex act with another MP, has resigned.
Matt Brown quit on Wednesday night after reports emerged about the party. There were also reports that he had simulated a sex act on a female MP, but the MP denied that had happened.
"I'm a human being and I made a mistake and I'm going to cop the consequences of that mistake,'' news.com.au quoted him, as saying.
"I'm talking about an incident in my office some three months ago during the Budget sittings. As is the tradition with the parliament, work colleagues get together to celebrate the budget. During that celebratory night, I behaved in a manner not befitting a minister. I spoke to the premier about this, and it was agreed that I would tender my resignation. It has been tendered.''
Premier Nathan Rees said Brown told him yesterday that "nothing untoward" had happened at the post-Budget booze-up in early June. But after asking around, he said he was given "a very different picture".
"I subsequently put it to former minister Brown late last night that there too many reports of you in your underwear for me to ignore," Rees said on radio this morning.
He said he would have stood by the 36-year-old Kiama MP if he had been honest about the near-naked dancing, but Brown's lie could not be tolerated.
This morning, The Australian newspaper reported claims by witnesses and revellers at a neighbouring party that Brown appeared to be drunk as he danced semi-naked on a couch in his office.
Witnesses on a balcony adjoining the two offices claimed they saw Brown gyrating atop the green chesterfield sofa in what were described as "very brief" underpants to "Oxford street techno-style music."
He was then reported to have climbed on top of Wollongong MP Noreen Hay before turning to her adult daughter and calling out "Look at this, I'm titty f..... your mother."
Brown denied using the words described but he has not denied the other allegations.
Ms Hay said later she was not involved in any incident on the night.
"I had a dance with Matt Brown ... but there was nothing like has been described whilst I was there. Matt Brown was clothed while I was in that room and by the way so was I," she said on Fairfax radio. (ANI)
