Nepal Govt accords top priority in concluding peace process

Kathmandu, Sept 10 (ANI): Nepal's President Dr. Rambaran Yadav unveiled here today the guidelines for the government's policies and programmes.

 

During a special function held at Constituent Assembly (CA) here, Dr, Yadav said that taking the peace process to its logical conclusion, bringing about socio-economic transformation and writing a new a Constitution on stipulated time will be the main priority of the government.

 

"The government will implement past agreements reached with various groups including the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA), and the agreement with the United Madhesi Democratic Front," he added.

 

Dr. Yadav also appealed to all groups carrying out 'struggles' in various parts of the country to suspend their activities and come forward for dialogue.

 

He said that the government has also intended to bring about rapid economic transformation by implementing the 'new transitional economic policies' by focusing on 'public-private partnership.'

 

"Foreign investment will be welcomed in national priority sectors and in areas where domestic investment alone does not suffice," he added.

 

Dr. Yadav further said that the government has also stressed on developing cooperatives. A high level Cooperatives Board chaired by the Prime Minister will be formed.

 

The government has also promised to increase the agricultural productivity. A scientific land reforms policy will be initiated for which a high-level Scientific Land Reforms Commission will soon be set up.

 

Dr. Yadav said that the tourism sector is another priority of the government.

 

"The government will give high priority to provide relief and rehabilitate the people displaced by recent Koshi floods, which was caused by lack of timely vigilance," he said.

 

"Special priority to Melamchi Water Supply Project has also accorded", he added.

 

Terming the next one decade as Decade of Economic Revolution, he said that the government has unveiled its ambitious plan for generating 10,000 MW of electricity in ten years. It has also vowed to ensure electricity supply to all within ten years.

 

"A special relief program will be initiated to ward off the difficulties the people have been facing due to load shedding," Dr. Yadav added, Nepalnews reported. (ANI)
