Ansals are free birds on bail, after India’s Holocaust

Nov 24:  This is the irony of our legal system, yesterday was the day of some relief for those who fought with their undying will to punish the careless people who gave India its holocaust waited ten years only to see them free on bails.

The Ansal brothers convicted of causing death due to negligence were handed out two years rigorous punishment, the maximum term for causing death due to negligence with three others while seven convicts found guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder were given seven years of rigorous imprisonment.

It is reported that Neelam and Sekhar Krishnamurthy have been threatened by some miscreants to eliminate them just after the judgement was pronounced.

The two after losing their children are leading the intense battle through their organisation "Association of Victims of Uphaar Tragedy" by uniting the other victims.

The judgement though reached to a conclusion after being repeatedly extended came as a shock for those who kept alight their hopes when the two biggies were given bail.

Neelam Krishnamurthy could not suppress her agony and said “You kill an animal, you get five years of imprisonment, but killing 59 persons gets you only two years’ punishment.”

However, the Court also ordered a CBI probe against the then DCP (licensing) Amod Kanth and other officials for their alleged role in allowing Uphaar Cinema to operate without having clearance for it.

After the pronouncement of two year sentence the Ansals brother were granted bail on personal and surety bond of Rs 25,000 each in the case. The three other were also given bail on personal bond and surety of 6,000 each.

Neelam reacted, “We are very disappointed. They were not sent behind bars even for 59 hours. They haven’t even spent an hour inside.”

But still with a tinge of hope in justice the victims are ready to take on another battle to appeal in higher court.
