London, Sept 9 (ANI): Parents of teenage children, who often face problems while dealing with their kids, have a new friend to turn to for advice - gotateenager.org.uk.
The social networking website helps them to cope with the challenges of older children.
Started by Parentline Plus, which runs a 24-hour helpline, the website is funded by the British Government.According to the charity, as the behaviour of some children became more difficult, parents do not have anyone to turn for help.
But now, Parentline Plus is expecting that the website may help such parents to fill the void.
According to Valerie Outram, an area manager for Parentline Plus, who trains counsellors for the helpline, fifty percent of the calls received by their charity, were from parents of teenagers who had nowhere else to go for help.
"After your child turns 13, you are pretty much on your own. Parents start to think they are the only ones going through it and the problems seem a lot bigger as a result," Times Online quoted her, as saying.
The website is designed for dealing with all kinds of problems, serious or comical. Not only will the website have a Mumsnet-style forum, where parents can chat anonymously about what is happening at home, it will also have e-learning modules to help with problems such as drug or alcohol abuse.
The parents can also see acted-out storylines covering common scenarios such as teenagers staying out too late or refusing to tidy their bedroom that may help them to learn better ways to communicate with their children instead of arguing.
The site will also have a "jargon buster" to help the parents understand what their teenagers are talking about. (ANI)
