Pakistan People's Party died with Benazir's assassination: Ex-Pak Federal Minister

Rawalpindi, Mon, 12 Apr 2010 ANI

Rawalpindi, Apr 12(ANI): A former Federal Industries Minister in the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Government, Raja Shahid Zafar, has said that the Pakistan People's Party's (PPP) set-up had died with the former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's assassination.

Zafar backed his comment with the statement that most leaders, who are part of the current government, have neither been in the PPP nor have any interest in the country.

He said that Pakistan President and Co-Chairman of the PPP, Asif Ali Zardari, has never had strong relations with the party, as the Bhuttos had, and also highlighted that senior leaders like Raza Rabbani have no say in the party, The News reports.

The remaining small minority is there because of corruption or hypocrisy, he added.

Bhutto was assassinated on 27 December 2007, after departing a PPP rally in the Rawalpindi, two weeks before the scheduled 2008 Pakistani general election where she was a leading opposition candidate.

Zafar further warned the government of severe consequences in case Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani took crucial decisions after getting powers under the 18th Amendment restored. (ANI)
