Gul, Arafat may miss Twenty20 World Cup due to injury
Karachi, Apr 12(ANI): Pakistani fast bowler Umar Gul and all-rounder Yasir Arafat are doubtful for the Twenty20 World Cup to be played in the West Indies due to injury.
The Pakistan team management is still awaiting complete medical reports of the injured players, but there is a big possibility that Pakistan might have to drop the duo for the tournament, starting from April 30.
Gul, Pakistan's leading wicket-taker in the previous two editions of the Twenty20 World Cup, is struggling to recover from a shoulder injury, suffered during a training camp at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore earlier this month.
While, Arafat is carrying a calf injury, and though he has resumed batting practice, the all-rounder is unable to bowl due to the problem.
The national team is scheduled to leave for the Caribbean from Lahore on April 24.
Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi confirmed that Gul is yet to recover from the injury, but said he was hopeful that the fast bowler would get fit in time.
"We are still awaiting a word from the experts on Gul and that whether he would be able to play in the Twenty20 World Cup. I hope he gets fit and manages to go with us to the West Indies," The News quoted Afridi, as saying.
"He is a top performer in Twenty20 cricket and has done a great job for the team in the last two (T20) World Cups. We would certainly need him in the West Indies because the conditions would really help him get a lot of reverse swing there," he added.
Meanwhile, the duo could make way for fast bowler Mohammad Sami and big-hitting opener Shahzaib Hasan. (ANI)
