Security beefed up in Udaipur after Al Qaeda email threat

Udaipur, Fri, 09 Apr 2010 ANI

Udaipur, Apr 9 (ANI): Police have tightened security around the famous Udaivilas Palace hotel in Udaipur after the hotel manager received a threatening email from Al Qaeda.

The email was sent on behalf of Abdullah Rahman, claiming to be the Secretary General of Al Qaeda, to Raj Singh Sisodia on Wednesday threatening a suicide attack.

The email stated that the Oberoi group-owned hotel, located on the banks of Lake Pichola, is second on the "black list" among the various hotels that Al Qaeda would bomb this year.

"Today, we have received a complaint from Mr. Raj Singh Sisodia, manager of the Oberoi Group that some Abdullah Rahman of so-called Al Qaeda gave a threat to the Hotel Mangaer that a suicide bomber would explode the hotel," said T L Meena, Inspector General of Police.

"We have registered this complaint and are inquiring into the matter. We have made suitable arrangements for security, like erecting check posts, watch towers and mounting vigil. We have also intensified patrolling of the area," he added.

The Oberoi Hotel in Mumbai was among the three luxury hotels targeted during the deadly November 26, 2008 terror attacks. (ANI)
