Tangkhul Naga community celebrates sowing festival in Delhi

New Delhi, Mar 26 (ANI): The Tangkhul Naga community celebrated the seed sowing festival in New Delhi recently.

Celebrating the seed sowing festival in the national capital made community members feel at home.

Hundreds of Tanghkul Nagas joined the celebrations on March 20, which aimed at promoting unity not only among Nagas but also between different cultures and ethnicities.oung Naga musicians sang about peace, harmony and love for the Tanghkul Naga community of Delhi at the Grih Kalyan Kendra.

The festival brought together hundreds of Tanghkul Nagas from all walks of life not just to celebrate the festival but also to strengthen their cultural, ethnic and traditional roots, away from home.

Cultural programs like these promote unity among the different Naga tribes as well as others from the northeast living in Delhi and NCR.

Audience felt that the cultural event is unique for Naga community as it showcases their cultural identity and history.

"History repeats itself, reveals itself. We are observing what our grandfathers have taught us," said Hongwa, a Tangkhul Naga.

"This kind of function helps bring students and all employees of Delhi working in different jobs together. It helps people of Northeast come together making them realize as one and making them realize what they are and what they are meant to be," said Mark, a participant.

"In the context of Naga community we are very much united, but what we are aiming at is we are trying to unite the whole northeast together not just Nagas. So I think cultural forces are mportant in unifying the society,"

The event began with the inaugural address by the Tanghkul Naga society President who expressed his desire to unite all the Northeast tribes.

Union Home Secretary GK Pillai then released a souvenir and extended full support of the Centre to the Nagas.

In his address, Pillai expressed his desire for a fruitful outcome to the ongoing talks between Centre and National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM) on the occasion.

"It is a matter of great satisfaction that NSCN (IM) agreed to restart the peace dialogue. We had very good meetings in the past week and we are hopeful that these talks would move forward," Pillai said.

"All I can assure from the Government of India is that we are not very wanting and would be very flexible. We recognize the unique history of Nagas and would try to find a solution, which is honorable," he added.

Addressing the programme, Tangkhul Naga Society Delhi president, A Luikham said: "We are here to strengthen the ties between all the Northeast communities and then the Naga communities. It does not go separately but goes together. But first of all we need to strengthen ourselves."

The festival was recently celebrated in Nagaland with a lot of pomp and gaiety.

And 10,000 Tanghkul Nagas residing in Delhi celebrated it away from home. By Devesh Gupta (ANI)
