May 12: India beat Bangladesh in the second ODI by 46 runs to clinch the three match one day series. With today’s win India has the invincible lead of 2/0 in the series.
The second ODI which was also delayed due to bad weather was reduced to 49 overs per inning. India won the toss and decided to bat first. Left hand opener Gautam Ghambhir’s incredible knock of 101 runs opened the gates for India. He stood as the star of the show. Gambhir scored the second ton of his one day internationals and earned the man of the match award. As a matter of coincidence his first ODI ton was also against Bangladesh.
After winning the toss the team put a formidable total of 284 runs, leaving Bangladesh a target of 285 in the stipulated 49 overs.
Apart from Ghambhir who scored 101 in113 balls, Rahul Dravid also played a wary knock to ensure a safe target for Bangladesh. Dravid remained unbeaten on 42. Dhoni had a chance on 21, but failed to capitalize on it. He scored 36 before losing his wicket.
Other major contributions came from Yuvraj 24, Sehwag contributed 21and Mongia lost his wicket on 17. For Bangladesh Rafique took 3 wickets, Razak and Rassel took 2 wickets each while as Murtaza bagged one wicket in his last over.
Chasing a target of 285 runs Bangladesh lost an early wicket of Tamim Iqbal. Tamim got run out and from then on Bangladesh’s looked as if out of the game.
For Bangladesh, skipper Habibul Bashar scored most runs, 43 while as Mashrafe Murtaza scored a rapid 42, which included four consecutive sixes from an over thrown by Dinesh Mongia. Aftab, batted on third and scored 40 of 41 balls and helped Bangladesh for a respectable reply.
For India Piyush Chawla made an impressive start to his ODI career. He bagged three wickets in his ten overs, conceding only 37 runs. Zaheer Khan and Yuvraj Singh took two wickets each while as Powar bagged one wicket.
