Big test for Yeddyurappa seeking confidence motion

Nov 19: The crisis is not over for Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) as before seeking a confidence vote on Monday both BJP and its ally Janta Dal (Secular) remain divided over power sharing diplomacy.

It is reported that since the discussion on power sharing has failed the JD(S) will vote against the confidence motion.

There was an intense discussion on power sharing between the two parties but the deadline came to an end on Sunday. JD (S) demanded that BJP should sign a written understanding to ensure smooth running of the government. The party insisted that the agreement should be on stamp paper signed by the leaders of the BJP and JD(S) party members.

BJP refused to sign any such agreement which resulted in the confrontation between the two parties.

Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda said that his 12-point demands were reduced to 10 and they also gave up the chairmanship of coordination committee and that the government should be dissolved when the parliamentary elections are announced. The party also wanted to retain the portfolios of urban development and mining in exchange of excise and health and family welfare.

BJP refused the party demands saying that the agreement made during BJP-JD(S) coalition in 2006 will remain valid for this government too.

JD(S) party member will decide today whether to go against the confidence motion or not.

While BJP is confident that JD(S) will not vote against them and they will be able to pass the floor test.

Yeddyurappa was sworn as Chief Minister of Karnataka on November 12 after it provided the proof of having the required number of support with him.

This became the first ever government led by BJP in Southern India. But the intense political drama since the term of JD(S) ended is raising various queries including the stability of the government.
