London, Sept 5 (ANI): A new arsenal of police weapons has come to town that surely will sound the death knell for criminals - they include stink bombs, a glue gun and a Spider-Man-style web.
The surprising devices are among an armoury of "less-lethal" crime-fighting tools being considered for use by police chiefs.
According to a report by the Home Office's Scientific Development Branch said one of the most effective could be the vile-smelling stink bombs - to be hurled amongst rioters to make them disperse.
The report added that the Spider-Man web would be a special mesh covered in adhesive that would be thrown over a fleeing crook.
Researchers have said that the criminals will get tangled up and fall.
Another device in the report, leaked to the respected Police Review magazine, is a glue gun that would blast a fast-setting substance for up to ten metres to stop criminals in their tracks.
"Such devices could provide a capability for UK police. Less lethal options neutralize a threat without substantial risk of serious or permanent injury or death," The Sun quoted a spokesman for the Association of Chief Police Officers, as saying.
But some officers reacted with disbelief to news of the gizmos.
One said: "It's all very well equipping us with these things but they all sound very fidgety. I'd feel more like Batman than a police officer, and I'd probably have more special devices than he did on his utility belt.
"It sounds like they have just gone down to the joke shop to get their ideas. So what about sneezing or itching powder?" (ANI)
