India, Pak realise issues can be resolved amicably: Clinton

Washington, Fri, 26 Feb 2010 ANI

Washington, Feb.26 (ANI): Expressing hope that the resumption of talks between India and Pakistan would yield some substantial results in times to come, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said both New Delhi and Islamabad have realised that issues between them can only resolved by themselves.

"I think both countries realise there are lots of important issues that only they can resolve between them, but the United States has encouraged the dialogue and we obviously hope that it will be productive," Clinton told lawmakers at a Congressional hearing.

Responding to queries from the members of Foreign Affairs and Related Programs Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, Clinton said Washington would continue helping both countries to bridge the gap between them

Members of the committee also expressed concerns about the Taliban grabbing hold of Pakistan's nuclear assets and India taking preventive measures in response.

"Well, Congressman, that's an extremely important issue and it's one that we take as a very high priority in our efforts with both countries," The News quoted Clinton, as saying. (ANI)
