Telangana Committee meets tomorrow following Centre's announcement

New Delhi, Feb 12 (ANI): The five-member committee headed by former Supreme Court Judge B N Srikrishna to look into the process for the formation of a separate Telangana state meets on Saturday, as the Centre on Friday announced a seven-point term of reference (ToR) for the Telangana Committee.

 

The panel would consult all sections of people in Andhra Pradesh, in particular the political parties on the demand of a separate state.

 

Justice (Retired) BN Srikrishnan will head the five-member committee that will examine the situation in the state with reference to a demand for a separate Telangana state as well as the demand for maintaining the present status of a united Andhra.

 

"It will review the development in the state since its formation and their impact on the progress and development of different regions of the state," said the ToR.

 

"The committee will identify key-issues that must be addressed while considering the matter," added the ToR.

 

The five-member committee will look into the impact of the recent developments in the state on different sections of the people such as SCs, STs, minorities, women, children and students.

 

The panel will make appropriate suggestions and recommendations after consulting organisations of other civil societies such as industries, trade unions, farmer organisations and women students.

 

The committee has been asked to submit its report by December 31, 2010.he Home Ministry on February 3 announced the formation of a five-member committee headed by former Supreme Court Judge B N Srikrishna to look into the process for the formation of a separate Telangana state.

 

The other members of the committee are Professor (Dr) Ranbir Singh, Vice Chancellor, National Law University, Delhi and Abu Saleh Shariff, Senior Research Fellow in International Food Policy Research Institute, Delhi.

 

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Department of Humanities and Social Sciences Professor Rabinder Kaur and Former Home Secretary V K Duggal are also the members of the committee. (ANI)
