Tapan Sinha wins Dada Saheb Phalke award
New Delhi, Sep 2 (ANI): The 54th National Film Awards were presented to the winners by President Pratibha Devisingh Patil in the Capital as eminent film director Tapan Sinha received the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2006.
Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Dilip Kumar, melody queen Lata Mangeshkar and veteran actress Saroja Devi.
The Lifetime Achievement Award given for outstanding contribution in the field of Indian Cinema, carries a cash price of Rs 10 lakh, a Swaran Kamal and a shawl.
Each of the awards carries cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, a citation and a shawl.
Tapan Sinha is known for the making movies like Sagina Mahto, Kabuliwala, Haate Bazaare and Ek Doctor Ki Maut.
Indira Gandhi Award for the best first film of a director was jointly given to Kabir Khan's Kabul Express and Madhu Kaithapuram's Eakantham.
While, the best direction award was given to Madhur Bhandarkar for film "Traffic Signal".
The Best Actor Award was given to famous Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee for film "Podokkhep" and best actress award was conferred on Tamil actress Priyamani for film Paruthi Veeran. (ANI)
