ABVP protests Rahul Gandhi's university visits in Bihar

Darbhanga (Bihar), Feb 3 (ANI): Activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Wednesday protested against Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi's visit to university campus.

On Tuesday, Gandhi visited Lalit Narayan Mithila University in Darbhanga and interacted with students.

The ABVP has alleged that such visits are politicising the college campus atmosphere.

Meanwhile, the protesting students performed 'Shudi Karan' (purification ritual) in which they poured Ganges water on Lalit Narayan Mithila University Vice Chancellor Padmasha Jha.

"The campus belongs to the students and student organizations. There should be no political activity here. But the way Rahul Gandhi's programme was conducted, shows the university is helping him to run a Congress membership campaign. Condemning this, ABVP held a purification," said Shishir Kumar, District Head of ABVP.

Rahul was on a two-day visit to Bihar to shore up support for the Congress party. He began his visit on Monday from Bhitharwa Ashram, where country's iconic freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi began his Satyagraha movement in 1917 to protest the British atrocities on farmers to force them into indigo cultivation.
