Curtain dropped on the political drama of Karnataka: BJPâ??s 1st CM in south
Nov 13: With the oath of office and secrecy by Yeddyurappa and his five member ministry BJP installed its first ever chief minister in South India registering the moments in the chapters of history.
BJP waited for more than two decades to get a chief minister from his party in south with its launch in Karnataka in 1980s. Party won the highest number of seats in 2004 state polls but had to play the role of opposition due to JD(S)-congress coalition forming the government.
After a month long battle with its ally only ultimately BJP became successful in getting its share and formed government in Karnataka. 25 th Chief minister Yediyurappa (enjoying the support of 129 MLAs including 49 from JD (S) will take floor test on November 23 rd after JD (S) members take oath as ministers.
Other members sworn in as cabinet ministers are Jagdish Shettar, VS Acharya, R Ashok and Govind M Karjol. Cabinet has been so structured that it represents every region of Karnataka.
LK Advani, national party president Rajnath Singh, Murli Manohar Joshi and chief ministers of three BJP ruled states were present to celebrate the special occasion in the history of the party.
After taking oath as chief minister, Yediyurappa promised a result oriented and responsive governance and cited development as the motto of his government. He also assured of the safety and security to the women, minorities and weaker sections, one of the demands put by JD (S).
The chief ministership would not be a bed of roses for Yediyurappa with its ally JD (S) but Yediyurappa keeps Atal Bihari Bajpai before him as a role model who formed government with the alliance of 24 parties and completed its full term of five years.
