Agartala, Sep 1 (ANI): A photo exhibition of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore, the architect of modern Tripura, was recently organised here to revive the forgotten past of the last dynasty of Tripura.

The exhibition that depicted the life of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore, the last ruler of Manikya dynasty, who is considered as 'the father of modern Tripura', was held on the occasion of his birthday. "We are fighting over small things like identity and other things. I think we are forgetting the larger interest. So, it is all more important for us to bring in peace and harmony by understanding our own history. We have to know our history to respect the history of others, who are residing in the state. This is main motive behind this exhibition," said Pragya Kumari, a convener, INTACH.

Manikya dynasty of Tripura has been instrumental in bringing the state to the mainstream of the national political system.

Presenting a collection of hand written letters of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore to American President Roosevelt, German dictator Hitler and to other dignitaries of the world, the exhibition showcased different facets of the life of the last king of the dynasty.

The popularity of the king and the people's interest in their history can be gauged from the fact that the three-day exhibition received a great response. "Our young generation is not aware of our past and our heritage. So, I think this kind of exhibition will give them a chance to know our heritage," said Arunadhoy Saha, a visitor.

Sumanta Debbarma, another visitor added, "This exhibition gives information about kings of ancient Tripura."The exhibition, held for the first time in Tripura, demonstrates the urge of the people to know their past, and the changing situation in Tripura, which is now peaceful after decades of violence.
