This is to be known that the political chief died in the air strikes by Sri-Lankan defence forces on November 2 nd.
Ban on rally came as a surprise as Tamil Nadu chief minister himself glorified the LTTE leader in his poem. Apart from these leaders, Aanaimuththu and Maniarasan along with hundreds of activists raising slogans in support of LTTE came on the road in support of the rally and were arrested under preventive detention laws.
Vaiko condemned Tamil Nadu government, which adopted a tough posture against the supporters of LTTE, for not allowing them to take procession, and called it an anti-democratic step. On the other hand he also questioned Karunanidhi’s act of composing poem in memory of the killed leader.
At the same time Vaiko took the central government to the task saying that they are supplying arms to the Sri Lankan army, which are being used against Tamils only.
Nedumaran also termed the restriction on rally as a ‘fascist rule’. MDMK to protest the arrest of its leader has decided to have a demonstration in all the district headquarters on November 14.
Phenomenon in the neighbourhood has boiled the politics of Tamil Nadu. Currently ethnic conflict has assumed huge dimensions. India is trying to resolve the conflict since 1950 as it adversely affects the political galleries of India. This is also to be highlighted that Tamil families of Sri Lanka have strong cultural ties with Tamil Nadu, which is barely thirty kilometers away from the island nation.
Central government always maintained that the conflict can be resolved not through arms but through negotiations and a negotiated settlement acceptable to all including devolution of powers only can solve the problem.
JD(U), MDMK expel two MPs each for violating whip on trust vote.
MDMK leader Vaiko arrested for seditious speech.
| 1. | Tamil Nadu politicians must not get carried away by the false propaganda of the LTTE. LTTE is not allowing the Kilinochchi civilians to go into safer areas and shedding crocodile tears saying that the civilians are suffering without food or medicine. Therefore, the Tamil Nadu Government should bring more pressure on the LTTE in safeguarding helpless civilians who are trapped in the battle-hit areas. Tamil Nadu political fraternity to put more pressure on the LTTE to stop fighting and enter the political process instead of turning a blind eye towards the arrogant attitude of the LTTE.Tamil Nadu politicians should act with utmost responsibility when they deal with the Sri Lankan issue.LTTE is solely responsible for the current humanitarian crisis in Kilinochchi and the rest of the Wanni. However, the outfit is giving a different picture to Tamil Nadu politicians. Innocent civilians are not allowed to get into safer areas. The LTTE has threatened those civilians in Kilinochchi and made them to remain as human shields. | Thambiah Sabarutnam 2008-10-13 |
