Soren Government to prove its majority today
Ranchi, Sept 1 (ANI): Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren, who was sworn-in as the state's chief minister for the second time, will prove his majority on the floor of the State Assembly today.
Earlier, Governor Syed Sibtey Razi had directed Soren to prove his majority on the floor of the House by Monday.
On August 25, Soren had staked a claim to form the government after submitting a list of 42-MLAs before the State Governor. He individually met all the Independent MLAs who were supporting his predecessor Madhu Koda, an Independent. Finally, the Independents extended their support to Soren in exchange for his accepting their 12-point demands.
Last week, Soren had withdrawn support from the Koda-led UPA Government in Jharkhand, thereby reducing the latter's government to a minority.
In 2005, after being sworn in as the state Chief Minister, Soren had to resign after failing to prove his majority in the Assembly. His stint lasted only nine days. (ANI)
