Melbourne, Jan 17 (ANI): Oscar-winning Indian composer A.R. Rahman attracted a huge audience at Parramatta Park for a Sydney Festival highlight.

Rahman's performance, which included the track Jai Ho from the flick Slumdog Millionaire, featured 40 dancers and musicians dressed in vibrant Indian wear.

A laser show added more energy and colour to the gala, which saw fans sitting on rugs and picnic blankets, grooving with the beat of the music.

"It's an honour to see him live," the Daily Telegrah quoted Rish Chandra, a fan, as saying.

The 25-year-old added: "It's really great that Sydney Festival is putting this concert on because it really shows the multicultural diversity of this city."

Lindy Hume, the festival director said: "I couldn't be happier with the way we started the first week - it's gone terrifically well, in terms of grabbing people's attention."

The Manganiyar Seduction, featuring 43 Rajasthani artists performing a impressive combination of music and theatre, also drew a huge word of praise from the audience.

"There's something about the fact that they sing honestly, from the heart, and they love their work," Hume said. (ANI)
