Strict action against generals involved in Sukhna case: Army Chief

New Delhi, Jan 14 (ANI): Army chief General Deepak Kapoor, who is under pressure from all quarters to act against the guilty in the Sukhna land case, has assured of strict action under the Army Act.

 

Military Secretary Avadhesh Prakash, Lt General Ramesh Halgali, Lt General P K Rath and Major General P K Sen have been indicted by a COI for their role in the Sukhna land case.

 

The Army Chief said that the case was brought to light by the Army itself and not by any agency outside.

 

General Kapoor said: "Any misconduct will be dealt with seriously depending on merits of case. I will take all measures to ensure that image of the Army is held high and any aberration or misconduct will be dealt in accordance with the merit of the case."

 

The justice will be done and it will not be affected by any external considerations like "personal biases" or "media pressure", he added.

 

The Army Chief further said that the armed forces are the only organisation that takes expeditious and judicious action once any wrongdoings are found.

 

General Kapoor said it was his responsibilty to "dispense justice that is firstly fair, secondly just and based on facts of the case and thirdly it takes into account the culpability of the individuals involved."

 

"Fourthly, justice that is not swayed by external considerations-be it personal biases or media pressure or any other aspect," he added.

 

The Army Chief said that he has received inputs in the form of Court of Inquiry (COI) and recommendations of the Eastern Commander and the legal advise of the Adjutant General at the Army Headquarters in Sukhna land case.

 

He made these remarks in view of media reports that some of the indicted generals might get away with lighter punishments. (ANI)
