Indian tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi and his partner Mark Knowles scored a comfortable straight set win in the second round of US Open tournament in New York. The Indo-Bahamian duo defeated Yves Allegro (SUI)/ Horia Tecau ROU with 6-3, 6-3 in the second round doubles clash.

Earlier in the first round, getting their strength back from a final round loss in the Pilot Pen tournament held last week, the fourth seeded pair had crashed out Sweden’s Johan Brunstrom and Thomas Johansson, 6-3 and 6-4.

Mahesh Bhupathi too moved to the second round of mixed doubles. He along with his Australian partner Samantha Stosur registered a comfortable win over United States’ Alexa Glatch and Scott Lipsky, 6-3 and 6-3.

But Mark had to pull out of his mixed doubles match with Zi Yan after incurring a knee problem early in the 2nd set. Mark and Zi had lost the first set in a tiebreaker 9-7.

Another Indian Leander Paes too with his Czech Republic partner Lukas Dlouhy eased into the second round of the doubles event with a win over Argentina’s Eduardo Schwank and Italy’s Potito Starace with 6-4, 1-6 and 6-3.

However, doubles pair of Indian Rohan Bopanna and Pakistan’s Aisam-ul-Haq Quereshi knocked out in their opening encounter 5-7, 3-6 to Frenchmen Marc Gicquel and Sebastien Grosjean.
