Cabinet approves upgradation of NH 17 under NHDP III

New Delhi, Jan 9 (ANI): The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure on Friday approved the implementation of the project of 122.87 Kilometres long section of four and six laning of Maharashtra and Goa border to Goa and Karnataka section of National Highway (NH) number 17.

 

The project will be taken up under National Highway Development Project (NHDP) Phase III on the bases of Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) or Build Operate and Transfer (BOT).

 

The total project cost is estimated at Rs.1872 crore under the DBFOT pattern.

 

The concession period of the project shall be for 23 years including a construction period of 1095 days.

 

The main object of the project is to expedite the improvement of infrastructure in the State.

 

The project is one of the stretches approved by the Government under the NHDP Phase III.

 

The project road runs between Maharashtra and Goa border to Goa and Karnataka section of NH-17 and it will facilitate in reducing the time and cost of travel for traffic.

 

It will also add to development of tourism in the State.

 

The Cabinet gave approval for four and six laning of 4000 Kilometres of National Highways under the NHDP Phase IIIA on BOT basis in March, 2005.

 

Subsequently, Government approved additional stretches in May,2006, Oct. 2006 and April, 2007, for implementation of four laning.

 

The major impact of the project lies in reducing the time and cost of travel of traffic, between Maharashtra and Goa Border to Goa and Karnataka section of NH-17.

 

It will also increase the potential of employment to local labourers for the project activities. (ANI)
