Telangana youth commits suicide in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Thu, 07 Jan 2010 ANI

Hyderabad, Jan 7 (ANI): Upset over the delay in the formation of the separate Telangana state, a youth reportedly committed suicide here on Wednesday.

Bhooma Reddy, 24, a native of Adilabad district, who was pursuing a multimedia computer course in Hyderabad, was found hanging on the ceiling fan at his room.

"He was in his room in the night and he committed suicide by hanging to the fan. When owner came and told us, we broke the door and saw that he had hanged himself. We found a suicide note in his pocket that said that for Telangana I am committing suicide.

We will send the body for post-mortem and we will inform his parents as well," said A. Balakoti, Inspector General of Police, Hyderabad.

The Police Official added that the suicide note appealed to the central government to immediately form Telangana or else more students would give up their life for the cause.

On Tuesday a meeting of eight major political parties of Andhra Pradesh, convened by Home Minister P Chidambaram in New Delhi, to resolve differences over the demand for carving out a separate state of Telangana, ended inconclusively.

An Anti-Telangana delegation of Congress party from Andhra Pradesh state also met Chidambaram.

Chidambaram announced on December 9 that the process to carve Telangana state out of Andhra Pradesh, home to several major international companies, would be initiated.

Pro-Telangana activists have been agitating since December 23 after the central government went slow on its promise of creating a new state.

The agitation for Telangana has resulted in series of violent incidents in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and some other places in Andhra Pradesh. (ANI)
