Perth, Dec. 30 (ANI): Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi produced a splendid spell of bowling to lift South Australia to a 29 run win over Western Australia in a Big Bash T20 match at the WACA Ground here.

Chasing a target of 197, Western Australia were bowled out for 167 in the 19th over thanks to a brilliant spell by Afridi, who took 4 for 19.

Hard hitting West Indies captain Chris Gayle raised Western Australia's hope for a stunning victory with his blitzkrieg knock of 40 from just 16 balls. Gayle's smashed five fours and three sixes before retiring hurt.

He returned with his side needing 47 from 27 deliveries, but was unable to deliver the punch, The Dawn reports.

Earlier, South Australia started on a disastrous note with Afridi being dismissed for a first-ball duck, but Mark Cosgrove (42 off 29 deliveries) and Cameron Borgas came to the rescue of their side. (ANI)
