President Patil accepts N.D.Tiwari's resignation from Andhra Governor's post
New Delhi, Dec.27 (ANI): President Pratibha Patil accepted the resignation of Narayan Dutt Tiwari from the post of Andhra Pradesh Governor on Sunday and appointed E.S.L. Narasimhan as the new Governor of the State.
Narasimhan has been given the new responsibility in addition to his duties as the Governor of Chhattisgarh.
"The President of India has accepted the resignation of Shri Narayan Datt Tiwari as Governor of Andhra Pradesh and has appointed Shri E.S.L Narasimhan, Governor, Governor of Chhattisgarh to discharge the functions of the Governor of Andhra Pradesh in addition to his own duties, until regular arrangements of the office of the Governor of Andhra Pradesh are made," said a release.
On Friday (Dec.26), Tiwari denied media reports alleging his involvement in a sex scandal and termed them "malicious" even as women's groups held demonstrations outside his official residence here demanding his resignation.
ABN channel, owned by Telugu daily Andhra Jyothi, telecast the story in the morning to shocked viewers.
The channel quoted Radhika, a woman from Uttarakhand, as saying that she sent the young women to the Raj Bhavan on Tiwari's request through his aide. he said that she was exposing the governor as he failed to provide her an iron ore mining licence in Andhra Pradesh.
Born on Oct. 18, 1925, Narayan Dutt Tiwari was Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh three times during the 1970s and 1980s and was Chief Minister of Uttarakhand from 2002 to 2007. A member of the Indian National Congress, he subsequently served as Governor of Andhra Pradesh from 2007 till Dec.27, 2009. (ANI)
