Ponzi king Madoff shifted to prison medical facility

North Carolina, Thu, 24 Dec 2009 ANI

North Carolina, Dec 24(ANI): Ponzi king Bernie Madoff, who has been jailed for a 65 billion dollars fraud, has been reportedly shifted to a prison medical facility after complaining of a "fluttery feeling around his heart".

It is also believed that Madoff also had high blood pressure and reported some "dizziness".

Prison officials refused to discuss why Madoff was admitted to the Federal Medical Center at the Butner Federal Correctional Facility in Butner, North Carolina, The Daily News reported.

Earlier in March 2009, Madoff had pleaded guilty to 11 federal offenses, including securities fraud, wire fraud, mail fraud, money laundering, making false statements, perjury, theft from an employee benefit plan, and making false filings with his firm.

The plea was the response to a criminal complaint, which stated Madoff had defrauded his clients of almost 65 billion dollars in the largest Ponzi scheme in history.

On June 29, 2009, the 71-year-old was sentenced to the maximum sentence of 150 years in federal prison, and as parole has been abolished in the federal prison system since 1984, it was equivalent to a life sentence. (ANI)
