Nov 06: Showing concern of murder and rape of a call centre employee Jyoti Chaudhary, Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industries (ASSOCHAM) has instructed the office transportation to install a tracking system to ensure the safety of its women employee.
In its statement ASSOCHAM suggested the Government to install Global Positioning System mandatory in all the cabs being employed by industries where women work in night.
D S Rawat ASSOCHAM secretary general said, “Authorities should make it mandatory for companies to install a Global Positioning System (GPS) in the estimated 30,000 cabs used by call centres, BPOs as well as other industries where females work in night shifts”.
He said with a word of caution “Incident like the one in Pune can be prevented if the GPS is installed in all pick and drop vehicles since movement of vehicle and any diversion will be monitored through such a system," he said.
“The companies should collaborate with government authorities to ensure that proposals are accepted and executed,” he further added.
Giving an account of its estimate it said that there are nearly 30,000 vehicles involved in ferrying workers in and around Delhi in which GPS should be installed.
Installing GPS will help monitoring the driver’s movement and will help checking any diversion.
Despite of several promises made by these BPO Company, the numbers of such cases has increased many folds. Take it granted attitude of employer is also questionable as many of the employers are given jobs without being properly scrutinised .
Many BPO company hire young women in their companies for the odd hour jobs so they must ensure and work for a safer working culture.
