New York, Dec. 15 (ANI) : UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has extended the mandate of the UN commission probing the assassination of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto by three months.

Speaking at a regular briefing here, Ki-moon said the commission needs more time to complete its probe.

"It is a reasonable request. And I am considering it positively since the commission needs more time to complete its work," The News quoted Ki-moon, as saying.

The three-member commission, headed by Chilean Ambassador to the UN, Munoz, which began its work on July 1, was mandated to submit its report identifying facts and circumstances concerning Bhutto's tragic death in December 2007 to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon by December,31,2009.

However, last month, the commission had sought extension saying its work was affected by the chaotic situation in Pakistan. (ANI)
