London, Dec 9 (ANI): Hugh Grant is involved in a standoff with his father, Capt James Murray Grant, over using the life story of his grandfather for his directorial debut.

The 'Love Actually' star thinks that the story of Maj James Murray Grant, a dashing British major who decided to fight against the Nazis after being ordered to surrender, would make a fascinating film.

But his father is not really pleased with the idea of using the life of the major, who led the 2nd Seaforth Highlanders at Dunkirk, for a film with which Grant would make his debut as a director.

"My father is very much against it. To him, any film equals Hollywood, equals a sell-out. It would debase what was, for him, a very sensitive episode involving a regiment of which his family is incredibly proud," the Telegraph quoted the actor, as saying.

In fact, Hugh has even completed the screenplay for the film.

Maj Grant played a pivotal role at Dunkirk in 1940 when his battalion of the British Expeditionary Force fought on after their commanding officer, Gen Victor Fortune, had finally surrendered.

Maj Grant was eventually captured by Rommel, the German Field Marshal.

"There's a beauty to the old regimental system and that's why I want to make the film. It must be in my genes; I've got so many soldiers as forebears," said the actor. (ANI)
