Curfew like situation in Ayodhya on December 6

Ayodhya, Dec.6 (ANI): Curfew like situation prevailed in Ayodhya city on Sunday (Dec.6) on the 17th anniversary of the demolition of Babri mosque by Kar Sewaks (Hindu volunteers).

 

Paramilitary personnel patrolled the streets and kept a tight vigil to ward off any untoward incidents.

 

"We are fully prepared and have also deployed men on rooftops. And we are taking efforts to ensure that no untoward incident takes place," said Gyaneswar Tiwari, Superintendent of Police, Faizabad District.

 

On their part, the local residents here said that an amicable solution to the issue so that people could come out from the shadow of fear and can lead a normal life.

 

"On the issue of temple and mosque, everybody has the same view. All of them want that a solution should be arrived at for this problem so that the fear that is there in the hearts of the people is finished and people can lead a normal life," said Vishwa Chand Gupta, a shopkeeper, Ayodhya.

 

Hindus regard Ayodhya as the birth place of Lord Rama.

 

On December 6, 1992, a mob of Hindu religious volunteers demolished the Babri mosque allegedly been built by the Mughal ruler Babar in the sixteenth century at a place where Lord Ram temple existed. (ANI)
