Ulfa top leaders to be produced before a Court: Police
The Asom Police has confirmed the media to produce the arrested top leaders of banned organisation United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) including Chaiman Arabinda Rajkhowa, the deputy commander-in-chief Raju Baruah and Rajkhowa's personal security guard Raja Bora before a local court in Guwahati today.
'The arrested top leaders of ULFA would be produced on December 05 afternoon before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court in the state capital,' a senior Asom police officer said.
Where the police would seek 14 days police remand for questioning the arrestees, police added.
The Jawans of Border Security Force (BSF) on Dec 04 arrested the top leader at Dawki in Meghalaya after their dramatic surrender. The surrendered ULFA leaders were brought to Guwahati by a helicopter and lodged at the fourth Assam Police Battalion headquarters in the city.
On the other hand, the Bangladesh government had handed over the arrested family members of Rajkhowa, Raju Baruah and Shasa Choudhary, Foreign Secretary of ULFA to the Indian government. All the arrested members have been brought to Assam Police Headquarter in Guwahati.
The police had added that the family members of ULFA leaders would be released soon as there are no cases against them and they are free to go anywhere.
Among those who surrendered are: Rajkhow's wife Kaveri and his daughter Kanchan, son Galadhar, Raju Baruah's wife Nirola and his 10-month child, Raja Bora, and the wife of ULFA foreign secretary Sasha Choudhury, Runima, and his son Shishir.
The Home Secretary G K Pillai had confirmed their surrender to the media.
According to media sources, the ULFA activists are not pleased with his top leaders’ act and they can react in the state soon. In this regard, a high alert has been declared in entire Asom and nearby states.
The negotiations between government authorities and ULFA leaders are likely to be broken due to the rigid demand of ULFA Chief of sovereignty, media report says.
