Home Ministry issues high alert on the eve of Babri mosque demolition anniversary
New Delhi, Dec 4(ANI): Union Home Ministry on Friday advised all the states to be on high alert on the eve of the 17th anniversary of the demolition of Babri mosque.
The demolition of the historical mosque in 1992 sparked one of the worst religious riots since country's independence in 1947.
A Government spokesman said that all states have been directed to put in adequate security measures to maintain communal peace.
"On the eve of December 6, the Ministry of Home affairs advised all the state Governments to remain on high alert because there is a possibility that some misguided elements may try to disturb peace and communal harmony," Omkar Kedia, spokesman of the Home Ministry told a reporters in the national capital.
"States have also been advised to deploy security forces in the sensitive places so that law and order is maintained. And government has also appealed to all sections of people to maintain peace and communal harmony," Kedia added. (ANI)
