Nov 03: Film will have no towel dropping scene of Ranbir Kapoor

Just before the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed film ‘Saawariya’ onthe 9 th day of this month, the censor board has directed the film producer and director to cut the nude shot of the male star Ranbir Kapoor featuring in a towel dropping scene in the number “Jab se tere nainaa”.

The scene was already in hype as the first instance in Hindi films as far as male nudity is concerned and this is the reason that the film certification board felt to eliminate it from the movie.

The board after watching the particular scene gave the director Bhansali two options: go with the uncut version with an adult certificate or cut the scene for a “U” rate. As the film is based on love and romance with nothing vulgarity in its way, it was obvious for the director to opt for the later one.

According to director Bhansali, the scene was a part of the song and has nothing to do as far as the plot of the story is concerned. The director has no objection to the board’s decision as this doesn’t hamper his creativity.

Bhansali is known for his creative thought which he has already displayed in his earlier films of Khamoshi (1996), Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Devdas (2002) and the last and the most popular one Black (2005). The director in his every attempt has tried something different and so far gained stupendous success with excellent story narration.

Expecting the same and produced under the banner of Sony Pictures, the film is all set to release on such auspicious occasion as Diwali minus the shot that has created gusto among Ranbir’s female fans.

I think it is time to put some broad-minded people in the censor board. Eventhough the board members are perhaps in their 60's and 70's, their brains obviously are 200 years old, and so are not functioning well. It is not enough to proclaim that India is a modern, industrialized, advanced country and that India is shining. Isn't it time to start behaving like one? The sky won't fall if people see a nude male body in a movie.
