Labour's plan to dramatically downscale historic Whitehall revealed
London, Nov 26(ANI): The British Government wants a review into the possibility of relocating some of the 132,000 civil servants and 90,000 employees out of London in a dramatic downscaling of Whitehall, leaked sections of a report to be published in a fortnight revealed.
Whitehall is often regarded as the heart of London, and is recognised as the centre of the UK Governmental administration.
The report said that civil servants currently based in London and the south-east may be moved out under Labour plans to cut public debts and instil a culture of "smarter Government", the Guardian reports.
The plan, being masterminded by the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Liam Byrne, would meet the Government's aims of cutting public spending and boosting localism, enabling civil servants to co-ordinate better with local communities while living and working in less expensive regions.
It will be delivered before the next budget, and would be guided by the principle that only those "required for ministerial support or personal interaction" would stay in the current location. (ANI)
