Swiss court grants bail to Roman Polanski

London, November 26 (ANI): Roman Polanski, who is imprisoned in Switzerland over a US child sex case, has been granted bail.

The Swiss Federal Criminal Court has accepted the filmmaker's plea to be freed on a 4.5million-dollar bail.

However, the court has decided to subject the 'Chinatowm' helmer to "constant electronic surveillance."

Also, he will not be allowed to step out of his chalet at Swiss Alps, reports the BBC News.

And, if he does move out of his chalet then an electronic tag would be activated for the cops to track him down.

The court added that Polanski would stay in the prison if an appeal is made against the ruling by the Swiss justice ministry within 10 days.

But it seems unlikely, as the Justice Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf has said that there is no reason to appeal against the decision.

The court has apparently been careful in laying down conditions of the bail to ensure that Polanski does not flee to France while free.

Polanski had admitted to unlawful sex with 13-year-old Samantha Geimer, in Los Angeles in 1977, but had later escaped from the country. (ANI)
