Gabba gets tough on boozers and hooligans
Brisbane (Australia), Nov.25 (ANI): CROWDS watching cricket at the Gabba here, will be subjected to some very tight restrictions, including a blitz on drunks and hooligans.
One-third of the ground will be alcohol-free for Australia's first Test match against the West Indies, starting on Thursday.
A ban has been imposed on backpacks and Eskies and entertainment items like whistles and beach balls, The Courier-Mail reports.
Bars won't open until 10 a.m., while alcohol marshals will monitor drink intake. Police and security officers will be out in force for the five-day Test.
Up to 45,000 fans are expected at the game.
Queensland Cricket CEO Graeme Dixon said strict controls were necessary given ongoing rowdy behaviour and violent incidents.
Dixon said the sporting body tried to self regulate but the State Government eventually stepped in. (ANI)
