Security forces gun down Maoist rebel in Chhattisgarh
Bijapur (Chhattisgarh), Nov 25 (ANI): Security forces gunned down a suspected Maoist rebel in the dense forest region of Bijapur in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday.
Officials said the rebel was shot dead in a gunfight at Pongur village, near Bijapur.
"A body has been recovered during the search, pipe bombs, detonator, Maoist literature and photographs have also been recovered," said RK Vij, Inspector General of Police, Chattisgarh police.
In September, at least at least 24 Maoist rebels and one senior police officer were killed in a gun battles in the remote jungle in Chhattisgarh.
The rebels, who claim that they are fighting for the rights of poor farmers and landless labourers, are expanding their influence in the rural areas of east, central and southern India. (ANI)
