UPA Govt. may table Liberhan report, ATR in Parliament today
New Delhi, Nov.24 (ANI): The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government, which is faced with the heat of the Opposition over leakage of Liberhan Commission report related to Babri mosque demolition, may table the report on Tuesday in the Lok Sabha.
The Parliament on Monday witnessed uproar from the Opposition on the alleged leakage of the Liberhan Commission report on the Babri mosque demolition even before it was table in the Parliament.
Later in the day, the Union Government opted to hold an emergency meet and clear the report and Action Taken Report (ATR). It was intended to table the report and ATR in the Parliament on Tuesday itself.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, presently visiting Washington D.C., called up Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and asked him to convene a Cabinet meeting to clear the report and the ATR.
The decision came after hectic parleys within the government and the Congress, with senior Ministers consulting party president Sonia Gandhi.
Questioning the breach of parliamentary privilege and delay in action on a report that took 17 years to finalise, Bharatiya Janata Party was joined by the Samajwadi Party and the Left parties in demanding immediate tabling of the Liberhan report. (ANI)
