Coimbatore, Nov 20(ANI): Green house technology is getting popular among the farmers in Tamil Nadu, where a farmer has reaped rich dividends by growing tomatoes with this technology.

Vivekanandan, tomato farmer from Coimbatore, had a yield that was four times more in comparison with open field cultivation, and now wants to extend this technology to other areas of his farmland.

"We are engaged in agriculture for the past 30 years and we do tomato cultivation in open field. We do get a yield of 25-30 tonnes per acre of land, but recently we came to know about the green house technology and we tried this system in a minimum level," Vivekanandan said.

"With this technology, we have got a yield of 25 tonnes in just in quarter acre of land. Moreover, now I am also planning to extend this system to my other areas of land," he added.

Now, farmers are growing various crops like capsicum, chilli, tomatoes, onion, and other vegetables by using this technique.

"In green house technology we are engrossing favourable climatic conditions that is temperature, pressure, humidity and balancing. These things we are trying to manage and control. The top metabolic activity is full-fledged. Growth increases manifold and yield is also likewise," said Prabhu Shankar, a Green House technology consultant.
