Samy Vellu asks Malaysian Indian leaders to prove critics wrong
Kuala Lumpur, Nov. 16 (ANI): Malaysian Indian Congress President S. Samy Vellu has urged party leaders to go to the ground to resolve the Indian community's problems in order to prove critics wrong.
"The MIC is constantly being blamed for many of the short-comings in our society. I call upon all of you here to prove those who have been criticising us wrong," The Star Online quoted Samy Vellu, as saying.
"Many of these challenges require urgent and immediate action. As party leaders, we must be able and ready to perform around the clock and be on a constant check of our performance," he added.
He pointed out that many MIC members have remained complacent and are lacking the will to go to the ground.
"If this persists, we cannot blame others for our downfall. Such behaviour will only encourage people to start distancing themselves from us. We will be labelled inactive, slow and irrelevant," Samy Vellu said when launching a workshop.
Samy Vellu said there would be a nationwide evaluation exercise on party leaders at all levels to create a "winning team" that cuts across racial lines, in preparation for the next general election.
"We are determined to re-invent and re-energise the party and wrest back the six parliamentary and 12 states seats we lost in the last general election," he said. (ANI)
