Police baton charge SRTC employees

Srinagar, Thu, 12 Nov 2009 ANI

Srinagar, Nov 12 (ANI): The Police today baton charged the employees of Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC), who were protesting for the release of their pending wages and fulfilment of their other demands.

The employees of SRTC took to the streets and staged a demonstration against the State government in front of the Civil Secretariat, demanding immediate disbursal of their long pending salaries.

The protestors shouted slogans and alleged that the Government was not taking any note of their demands.

"Our demand is regular salary and implementation of the Sixth pay commission.

There are some other demands also that should be met. But our main demand is regular salary. Government just gives statements to media and everything remains on papers. They don't hold talks with us directly," said Sabeer Ahmed, a SRTC employee.

Several people were injured in the baton charged by the Police.

Corporation employees are on an indefinite strike over the past two months. (ANI)
