Two killed in Kanpur hostel blast
Kanpur, Aug 25 (ANI): Two persons were killed in a blast inside a hostel in Kanpur industrial hub on Sunday.
The roof of the building collapsed and the walls developed cracks due to the heavy impact of the blast.
The victims were Rajiv Mishra, son of the owner of Mishra hostel, and his friend Bhipindra Singh.
"A boy came with me. After ten minutes, another person came. First, he kept checking the electricity meter and then he went inside. After 15-20 minutes, there was an explosion inside," said Manvendra Singh Chauhan, an eyewitness.
Police seized a large amount of explosives and timers from the hostel.
"The watches, wires and explosives recovered from the site point towards a plan of exploding a timer device," said Inspector General of Police S.N. Singh.
Police suspect the blast was a result of a mishap and are probing whether the hostel was being used to assemble bombs. (ANI)
