India, Bosnia-Herzegovina sign treaty on criminal matters

New Delhi, Oct.29 (ANI): India and Bosnia-Herzegovina today signed the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty in Criminal Matters. India's Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mullappally Ramachandran signed the treaty with Bosnia-Herzegovina Minister of Justice Barisa Colak.

 

The treaty aims at improving effectiveness of the contracting parties in investigation and prosecution of crime including crime related to terrorism and confiscation of proceeds and instruments of crime.

 

With the signing of the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty in criminal matters, co-operation between the two countries in the field of internal security will be strengthened.

 

The treaty will come into force after exchange of instruments of ratification. The treaty shall also apply to any request for legal assistance relating to acts or omissions committed before its entry into force.

 

The Bosnia-Herzegovina delegation is in New Delhi on a two day visit that will conclude tomorrow.

 

Two bilateral treaties viz. Agreement on Transfer of Sentenced Persons and Extradition Treaty will also be negotiated between he two sides. (ANI)
